ABOUT KNAK DESIGN PARTNERSHIP

Designing Tomorrow, Building Today.

KNAK DESIGN was formed by a group of Architects, who had completed their professional apprenticeship in the United Kingdom, in 1994. After getting registered in Ghana in 1995, the company has broadened its human capacity and resource base to offer full multi-disciplinary services in the built-up environment. Services offered include Architecture, Engineering, Surveying, Planning and Facility Management.

The firm was incorporated as a Partnership in 2005 to meet the legal requirements of the Architectural Registration Council of Ghana and the Ghana Institute of Architects.

The firm has had the experience of working on projects funded by international agencies such as the World Bank, KfW the OPEC Fund and the African Development Bank. Example of such projects, are:

  • District Towns IV a project involving infrastructural development in towns with population of over five thousand in districts in Ashanti and Brong Ahafo regions. Projects involved include, schools, clinics and markets. The project is funded largely by the German government through KfW. It is managed by the Project Co-ordination office of the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development.
  • Supervision of 80 sub-projects, managed by the Social Investment Fund (SIF), of Classrooms, Health posts ICT centers and residential units in eight districts of Ghana.
  • Extension and improvement on security installations at the British Council building Accra.
  • Transit offices at the Country office of the World Bank in Accra.

 

The firm has also worked on projects of various categories such as, Educational, Residential, Office buildings, showrooms, warehouses, Road/Civil works and factories. Notable among them are listed below

  • 150 Capacity Bulk Road Vehicle Parking (BRV) at Kpone near Tema
  • School Buildings in seven different towns in the District Towns project in Ashanti and Eastern regions
  • School Buildings at over 20 locations in the Urban Poverty Reduction Project (UPRP) managed by the Social investment fund in Volta, Greater Accra, and Eastern regions
  • An Office block with an auditorium for the Junior division of the Ghana Armed Forces Staff College
  • Eastern Regional Office of the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC)
  • 18 No Blocks of 16 residential apartments for the Ghana Armed Forces
  • 4 storey office block for the senior division of the Ghana Armed Forces Staff College
  • Consultant to Sanford World Clinics, an American Hospital group which is currently developing a chain of health facilities in Ghana.

 

A principal Partner of the firm is a past member of the council of the Ghana Institute of Architects. He has also presented a paper titled,” ROLE OF THE LOCAL ARCHITECT WORKING IN COLLABORATION WITH FOREIGN CONSULTANTS ON FOREIGN FUNDED PROJECTS IN GHANA” to the final year students of Architecture at the Central University College, Ghana.

COLLABORATION WITH FOREIGN CONSULTING FIRMS

The firm also has the Experience of Collaborating with international Consulting firms to review designs, secure permits and provide Project management Services for Construction of Projects in Ghana Notable among them are:

  • Mövenpick Ambassador Hotel

The main Consultant for which was Dar Al Handasa & Shair, a leading international Consultancy firm (KNAK Design Partnership was key in the process of securing all permits up to final habitation Permit).

  • Clinics in various locations of Ghana.

The Main Consultant for which is Architecture Incorporated of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, USA (Now on the third project, KNAK Design Partnership has been fully involved with Design, Securing Permits, Tender action and Construction supervision/Project management of all three projects)

  • Control Buildings for Sub-stations of Volta River Authority/Electricity Company of Ghana/Gidco at seven sites in Ghana.

The Main Consultant/Contractor is EFFAGE Energie, a French Company. KNAK Design Partnership for the past six years collaborated with the main Consultant with the development detailed Architectural and Structural drawings for construction. Construction Supervision duties have recently been added to the scope undertaken by KNAK Design Partnership.

  • The Accra Exchange Project.

The main Consultant for this Project is Dar Al Handasa & Shair. It is a mixed Residential, Offices, Retail and Hotel Project. KNAK Design Partnership lead in securing all relevant Permits for the Project.
